Christmas Dessert Recipes

Candy Canes

These are definitely must-have Christmas dessert ideas, these cheerful Candy Canes for your Christmas party, especially as gifts for little children or as decorations for your well chosen Christmas tree. They are also suitable as party desserts come Chraistmas or other celebrations. To prepare these Christmas dessert recipes it requires much patience, as with taffy, tug gently, pull amd twist them round and round for nice and cheerful looking canes :)

Ingredients
3 cups Granulated Sugar
1/2 cup Water
3/4 cup Corn Syrup
1 tsp Red Colouring
1 tsp Peppermint Essence
1/4 tsp Cream of Tartar

Method

Combine granulated sugar, syrup, water and tartar cream and cook until sugar has dissolved. Split into 2 pans and continue to boil at low heat.

Add peppermint to each pan and red colouring to one pan only. Turn off heat. Remove mixture from pan and place on an enamel top (greased). Allow both mixtures to cool.

Once cooled, stretch and pull. Form each mixture into red and white ropes. Twist red around the white, twisting again repeatedly. Now form into desired cane shape.

Allow canes to harden on the greased enamel top. Keep in airtight container until ready to use or serve.
