Christmas Dinner
All Around The World

The one family tradition that should not be broken - sit down to eat together at Christmas dinner. Whether you are away from town or out of the country, you just got to come back for this important annual reunion. This is the time when families reconcile, all misgivings are forgiven, all feuds are put aside for peace and well-wishing.

Christmas dinner meals are obviously the factor that bring everyone together. Breaking bread together is a significant celebration for a family. In the United States, families enjoy a festive holiday stuffing, roasted vegetables and delicious mashed potatoes. Add to that, sweet potato casserole and fruity jellies. So, what's the main dish? Watch the video below. You'll either chuckle or howl with laughter :)

Yea, mouth-watering succulent ham, roast beef or best roast turkey you can make. Food is abundant and the kitchen is abuzz with exciting and loving preparation by mothers, helped by family members. For desserts, we look forward to traditional yule logs, luscious fruit cake, marzipan and Christmas pudding.

If you are looking for something different this year, read on how other countries prepare their Christmas menu.

Brazil – Brazilians Christmas supper takes its cue from Portugal, yes, served on Christmas Eve, late at night. Roasted chester, a huge chicken, or roast turkey served with colorful rice dishes is the main event. An atlantic cod, bacalhão, is bought dried and salted, then prepared for a day in a half before serving. These are complemented with couve mineira , a garlic kale, and other vegetables plus succulent fruits. Christmas dinners are incomplete without traditional dessert rabanada and French toast made with baguettes, sprinkled with sugar, lightly drizzled with a spice port wine syrup.

Czech Republic - Old superstitions influence their Christmas dinner customs that are, however not observed today. A traditional meal consist of nine courses , including bread and honey, fried carp, potato salad, fruit, and an apple strudel dessert. Christmas cookies are made and lavishly decorated for guests. Leftover cookies are then displayed on the Christmas tree.

Philippines – Here, Christmas is the most important holiday. Noche Buena, or Christmas is the highlight. The meal is sumptuous buffet where family and friends are invited to drop by in an Open House style setting. Tables are well-decorated with Christmas wreaths and flowers display, large portions of roasted pig, oxtail stew, a baked stuff chicken (rellenong manok) noodles and pasta dishes, native rice cakes, adobo, spring rolls, and cheese balls. Dinner is served with a native hot chocolate and ginger tea.

Germany - Celebration takes place on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The day before Christmas Bockwurst and potato salad, raclette, fondue, and fish are served. Christmas dinners are a more elaborate affair with roast turkey or goose, red cabbage, and potato dumplings. German gingerbread and Plätzchen, a variety of cookies never fail to be served.

There are many different recipes from around the world but they all have one thing in common, that is sharing the holiday with loved ones.
