Diabetic Desserts - Vanilla Custard

The Vanilla Custard is the basic custard dessert which most of you enjoy. This is one of the diabetic dessert recipes which uses Fruit Sweet as the natural sweetener to replace refined sugar. Fruit Sweet is a suitable replacement as it is made from pure fruit syrups and is low-calorie, fat-free and low-glycemic.

Generally, chilled diabetic desserts are not only delicious but are also easy desserts to make that will not be of much hassle.


Vanilla_Custard

Ingredients

6 			        	Egg Yolks Only
1/4 cup				Fruit Sweet
1/2 cup				Whole Grain Wheat Flour
2 cups				Low Fat Milk
1 tsp			        	Vanilla Essence
1/4 tsp				Salt
1 tbsp				Butter; melted

Method

Beat egg yolks and Fruit Sweet together until creamy, thick and pale. Sift flour over the egg mixture.

Over low heat, cook this egg mixture and add in milk gradually. Lastly, add in vanilla essence and salt. Keep stirring while cooking until mixture starts to thicken into custard consistency. This should take about 10 to 20 minutes. Turn off heat. Spoon melted butter over custard to prevent a skin from forming while it cools. Best when served chilled.
